Urban Heat Island Map Credit: VITO, Planetek
The strategic design for this project required a visual conversation with the urban heat island research, the community garden adjacent to the site, and the historic building while constructing a framework for local artists to learn and contribute.
The hot to cool gradient design captures and communicates the essence of the research. Urban silhouettes paired with informed, native plant life provided a framework for local artists to contribute pollinating insect designs. The power lines on site are reflected in silhouette and accompanied by arches reflecting the garden hoops present in the community garden.
